Since its inception, Synopsis Planet has been involved in the development of Microchip Lasers. These being diode-pumped solid-state lasers (DPSSL), they are very compact and efficient.
Synopsis Planet's development of microchip lasers has led to the achievement of TRL 4 of an Er:glass passively Q-switched microchip laser.
Eye-safe Microchip Laser Optical Cavity
The use of erbium-doped glass permits the laser to be emitted with a wavelength of 1.54 µm. The wavelength is considered eye-safe, bringing advantages for use in LiDARs or rangefinders.
In our lab, we are able to assemble such laser with 2 ns pulses with 100 µJ of energy when employing the passive Q-switching technique using a saturable absorber.
We have also manufactured an optical cavity with CW emission. The cavity was only a few millimetres in length and presented a slope efficiency of over 16%.
